Lumpsum calculator: a quick guide

What is a lumpsum investment?

A lumpsum is a single, one-time investment, for example a bonus or the proceeds of a sale, left to grow for a number of years.

How this calculator works it out

Future value = amount × (1 + annual return)years

An example

₹5 lakh invested for 10 years at an assumed 12% a year grows to about ₹15,52,924, of which ₹10,52,924 is estimated growth. At 12% a year, money roughly doubles every 6.1 years.

Good to know

  • The result assumes the same return every year. Real market returns move around, so the path will be bumpier.
  • Compare the same money as a monthly SIP using the SIP calculator to see the difference timing makes.
  • Use the inflation calculator to see what the final amount may be worth in today’s money.
How it's calculated

The amount compounds once a year: value = amount × (1 + return)^years.

Common questions

Lumpsum or SIP, which is better?

A lumpsum puts all your money to work at once, which helps if markets rise. A SIP spreads your purchases over time and reduces the risk of investing everything at a market peak.

Is the return guaranteed?

No. Market-linked investments move up and down. Use this as a planning estimate, not a promise.
